Anand Karaj is a Sikh term that defines power and vitality. The wedding that conducts with the Sikh code is recognized by the Anand Karaj. In the Sikh Matrimony/marriage, it is a most precious and holy ceremony where two souls unify in the presence of Sikh Holy book called “Shri Guru Granth Sahib”. How Does A Sikh Wedding Ceremony Begin?
Bride and Groom with families and along with the relatives and friends gather at Gurudwara Sahib. Bride’s family members welcome the Groom and their relatives. All members sit together along with the bride and groom in the hall near the Guru Granth Sahib and the musician sing hymns in form of welcome and these songs are dedicated to God. Later the priest performs a small Aradass with the bridegroom and their families only to get permission for further process. Then the musician sings hymns and along with the bride’s father or brother gets the one end of the groom’s scarf and put it in the bride’s hands and told them to hold properly during the Anand Karaj ceremonies. Then the priest starts reading the Lava’s from the Sikh Holy Book. When the priest complete first Lava, the musician also read Lava’s in musically way and the bride and groom take a round of Shri Guru Granth Sahib and sit at their decided place. This happens four times until the Anand Karaj Ceremony is not completed. The entire congregation sings "Anand Sahib", the "Song of Bliss". The hymn emphasizes the fusing of two souls into one as they merge with the divine and everyone stand s for the final prayer. This prayer denotes to God to “Thank you” for successfully completed the ceremonies. Meaning of Four Lava: In the first round of the marriage ceremony, the Lord gives you His instructions for married life. In the second round of the marriage ceremony, the Lord guides you to meet the True Guru - the One Teacher In the third round of the marriage ceremony, your heart is filled with Divine Love. In the fourth round of the marriage ceremony, I have found God and my mind is filled with peace.
